Every doll clothing artist wants their hand stitched items to have a designer touch and look professional. But how do you get a professional finish when you have limited practice? Try starting with a design that has only a few main pattern pieces, and perfect the construction of it!
This was my inspiration for creating the Tulsa Tunic sewing pattern, by FROG Princess Fashions. I wanted to create a necessary article of doll clothing that is not just visually appealing, but also polished-looking, with only a few main pattern pieces. The Tulsa Tunic is not only trendy, but it only has four main pattern pieces, not including the sleeve and neck binding and the optional scarf. Plus, it has endless possibilities for assembling.
In addition, the step-by-step construction guide walks you through every step of stitching it up so that you can get professional-looking results.
This little shirt is best stitched with standard fleece, terry fleece, sweatshirt fleece, or interlock, can be combined with other fabrics for the bodice.
Knits can be intimidating to stitch, but with the tips provided in the construction guide and a little practice, you can sew knits with confidence and produce clothing like a pro! This little sweatshirt has a couture look but is quick to stitch and delightful to sew! Make one or several.

This pattern is designed to fit 18 dolls such as American Girl®.
Recommended Fabrics: Suitable knits include: interlock, ribbed cotton knit, spandex, performance knit, French terry, sweater knit, sweatshirt fleece, Ponte de Roma, and other medium-weight knits
Supplies Needed:
Fabric
1 4 yd. knit fabric or 1 8 yd. each of contrasting knit fabric pieces for upper and lower bodice, sleeves, and trim
Optional: 1 8 yd. ribbed trim
Notions
Hook and loop tape
Thread to match fabric
Optional: double-sided fusible hem tape, cut in ¼” wide strips to piece along hem
